Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
