British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he started his work in men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
