Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
