Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
