Corporate Departure
The former official declared he would withdraw from public roles after Congressional panel disclosed his frequent messages with the financier

Ex-Treasury chief Larry Summers is leaving the directorate at the ChatGPT creator, just several days after a batch of electronic messages between him and late convicted sex offender the disgraced billionaire became publicly available.

Summers stated in an announcement that he was "thankful for the privilege to have participated, optimistic about the promise of the company, and look forward observing their development".

The former Harvard president, who previously led the prestigious university, announced on earlier this week that he would be stepping back from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

Email Communications

The newly public emails revealed that the official communicated with Jeffrey Epstein until the eve of Epstein's 2019 apprehension for accused human trafficking of minors.

In a separate statement, the artificial intelligence company expressed it understood his choice to resign.

"We appreciate his many contributions and the insight he provided to the directors," OpenAI remarked.

Congressional Action

This development arrives after the entire Congress of the US legislature decided on Tuesday to approve a measure that would require the federal prosecutors to disclose its files on Jeffrey Epstein.

The legislation will then proceed to the desk of the White House for approval. Trump has indicated he intends to sign the legislation, after changing his view on the subject following pushback from his supporters.

Email Contents

A group of Epstein-connected correspondence released by the House Oversight Committee days ago referenced several prominent individuals in the Epstein's former circle, without indicating any criminal activity by those individuals.

The messages indicated that the economist and Epstein dined together frequently, with Epstein often seeking to connect the academic to notable international personalities.

Personal Response

After the messages were shared with the wider community, the former official said he accepted "full responsibility for my poor decision to continue communicating with Mr Epstein".

He further stated that he hoped "to restore faith and mend bonds with the persons closest to me".

Previous Positions

Summers held senior posts under two Democratic presidents; acting as economic leader under the former president, and as head of the National Economic Council under President Obama.

He presided over the university from 2001 to 2006 and is still a faculty member there. When announcing his withdrawal from public duties recently on this week, he said he would continue his teaching commitments.

Other Impacts

Following the economist's announcement on Monday, the Center for American Progress, a liberal policy institute in the capital where he was a prominent member, verified that he was no longer connected with the group.

He became part of the directorate of OpenAI, which makes the AI chatbot, in 2023 - following a failed attempt to replace its top executive the company leader.
