The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to bring him back to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact at the club. The forward was killed in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad as well. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
