The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman containing several personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four separate souls, each with unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
