The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."

The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.

Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.

In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
