Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.
Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, making him third in history trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I want up in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their efforts this season.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
