Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Tension on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.

However the main topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when the keeper lost the ball far outside his box.

The goalkeeper came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at the interval, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.

A particular of those jeering episodes truly angered Frank.

"I heard some of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and jeered after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be real Tottenham supporters that act that way. Fair enough jeering following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are with each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight keeper Hart remarked that the next score was "completely avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I am aware the role Vicario is performing. He's a great squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

He stated after the match that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn results. This match is a poor defeat and it is tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Returned to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was far from an simple score for Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the correct contact and get it on target. I felt a positive sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although the keeper's error led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

This was their 10th home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to play before the end of the year.

Just a single of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from his predecessor in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can utilize to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 consecutive at home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
