US Online Influencer Fined Following Mass E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales police have issued a fine against an American social media personality and served two driving violation citations for alleged reckless operation following a swarm of electric bicycle users gathered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during the busy commute on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A group of around 40 people operating electric bikes and motorbikes travelled along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly subsequently reversed direction and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"There was a risk of people to be injured and killed," stated NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on Wednesday.

Law enforcement said they did not immediately pursue the riders out of concerns for public safety but instead located the assembly at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

Later in the week, police stated they had served the American online personality who goes by the influencer, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (not involving death or prior injury), with a penalty of $562 and penalty points each, in relation to the bridge incident. They added that the investigation is ongoing.

The personality is said to have more than 3.4m followers on one platform and over 1.2 million on the social media app.

Creator's Response

The content creator spoke with a major newspaper this week following the event spread rapidly on news sites and social media, stating he regretted giving "bike life" a negative image.

"I accept the blame. It was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, and I intend to abide by the laws and norms of the city. When I decided to do a public meeting it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to say hi near the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had a decision to make: either the group rides the full length of the bridge and comes back, which is a crime. Or we reverse, basically, before we’re on the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to go back."

National Debate on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of e-bikes on streets across the country has sparked growing calls for regulation. A senior government official, Mark Butler, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."

"Kids have done reckless acts on bikes since the invention of the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are truly severe," the minister said. "We’ve got to make sure we prevent these things entering the country [and] officers are given the authority to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to destroy them."

NSW reported over two hundred injuries associated with electric bikes in 2024. But, in the initial half of 2025, that figure jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
